75th Anniversary of the Capture of the Enigma Machine

OK, this one is a little random, but today is the 75th anniversary of the capture of the Enigma Machine. “What is the Enigma Machine,” you might ask? It was a special code-generating device used by the Germans in World War II. Many historians believe that the successful capture and subsequent decoding of the Enigma Machine was a critical turning point in the war.

The story of the decoding of the machine was recently told in the movie, The Imitation Game. It tells the story of how Alan Turing and a team of cryptographers broke the code. The movie doesn’t really cover the capture of the device, just all the drama that went into trying to figure it all out.
